Two days, two skirts

Two days ago I had finally gathered the courage to make a skirt with a zipper. I've tried it before and it didn't turn out great last time. In fact it was a total failure. But this time it went better. The first skirt I started making was with a red checked fabric wich had been lying around for quite a while now. From the moment I bought it, I new it had to become a skirt. And so it did. However, it didn't turn out perfect. There are still a few loose threads, so I'm going to add lining. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

The next day my second attempt at making a skirt turned out rather succesfull. I used this yellow/blue checked fabric and I'm quite pleased with the end result. I made it a little different than the one from the day before, and I think I've got all its flaws covered. To make both of the skirts I didn't use any pattern. I just measured myself and went from there. If anyone is interested in how to make this actually easy gathered skirt with zipper, I would be happy to write an tutorial, just let me know!

Merry Chrismas!

Merry Christmas to all! Yesterday I decorated my room for Christmas and I also made these little christmas trees. I think they're cute and they're so simple to make. Just cut out the same shape of tree out of different colors of paper. Fold them in half and stick the sides together. And your done! If you want, you could use more special paper or decorate this ordinary colored paper with glitter. Maybe I will do that.

I'm so glad we're having a vacation, because I've been so bussy lately. It's nice to just have time to do nothing and relax. Okay, in truth, I'm not very good at doing nothing. I have tons of projects that I still want to do or finish!

All you need

The last couple of days I've been pretty bussy. The little time I had I spend on Pinterest. I came across this quote saying: All you need is less. I like sayings like this, especially this one because it really made me think. It is so true that I have way to much stuff that I don't use and even forget about. So I decided that it would be a good time to start cleaning up my room. I'm far from finished, but there was already so much stuff I found that I could go without. I've already sold some via the internet, and hopefully in a few days the rest of my stuff I put out there will be sold as well. From now on I'm going to try to buy less and at least think more about wether or not I will really use it.

Last year we had a project on my school wich was all about who you are and who you want to become. We took a suitcase, decorated it and filled it with things we made during this project or were important to us. Now almost everything I find in my room and want to keep for sentimental reasons, I put in there. It is a nice way to store items that you really don't want to throw away!

This is me #1

Today I didn't feel so well, so I didn't feel like writing a lot of stuff. However I thought it would be fun for you to know a little bit more about me.

Don't give up just yet

In my first blogpost I mentioned that I had started with NaNoWriMo. The goal was to write a novel of 50.000 words in a month. I have only written 19.687 words in November. But this time I don't feel so bad about nog being able to accomplice my goal. Last year I only managed to write 5.000 words, so I would think this is a big step forward. It's just that November is a month in wich so many things happen... My own birthday, getting ready for Saint Nicolas and so much more! So I'm actually quite proud of myself for coming so far. And I know,
One day I'll be able to finish. Maybe not this year, or the next... But some day!

Now I'm supposed to be an adult

Last tuesday I turned 18. In my country that means you're supposed to be an adult. I don't really know if that's the same in every country. I'd love to know, so if someone does?
It's a very strange feeling that one day, you're just a teenager and then the next, you're an adult. I don't really know how I feel about that. On the one hand I'm excited that now I can do (almost) anything I want, but on the other hand; you also gain a lot of responsibilities.

But I thinks, the feeling that there is so much I can do now perseveres. Because there are just so many things I can't wait to do!

I still don't have a clue about what I want to do next year, so I hope it'll all be clearer in a few months. Traveling and taking different courses around the world seems fun, but I have to be realistic; it will be very expensive.

My biggest wish for coming year is to graduate, so hopefully I will.

Birthday party with family and friends

Because I'll turn 18 coming week, I celebrated my birthday yesterday with my friends and family.
I had made so many plans to make food, but I think I wasn't totally being realistic, because is was way to much work for the short amount of time I had. At the end my mom helped me a little, but still one dish I couldn't make. But I'll tell you wat I did make!

I started by making a cake with strawberry and white chocolate filling. I wasn't quite finished when my friends showed up, so Suzan and Sophie helped to decorate it. It think it turned out really pretty and it also tasted great.

I made Harissa, Feta and Tomato Tartlets, you can find the recipe here. They tasted really good and looked so beautiful! The photo of the end result I took later that evening. It already was quite dark outside, so the photo is really bad, but it'll give you a little impression.

To the right you can see grilled suchinni pizza slices I made, using this recipe. Furthermore I made crepe lasagne with spinach and ricotta. The recipe was in french, so I used Google Translate to translate it. It turned out a little funny, but it was clear what the directions were supposed to be.

My parents had bought champagne, to toast on my birthday. My friends and I played boardgames and ate a lot of food the rest of the day.

Although it wasn't my birthday yet, I had an amazing day.

Amazing cover of Keep Your Head Up

Every week I watch The voice of Holland. I've gotten a little tired with al the singing contests on tv nowadays, but I like how this contest is slightly different. The jury had to sit with their back towards the person who is singing, so the voice is only of importance. My favorite contestant so far is Sandra van Nieuwland. Last friday she sang an amazing arrangement of Keep Your Head Up by Ben Howard.

Making a paper crane garland

http://i45.tinypic.com/8xk7cl.jpg

A while ago I made this paper crane garland. It so simple, and I really like it. My friend Suzan and I used it to decorate the livingroom for our Japanese themed dinner party. The only thing you will need to make it, is colored rectangular pieces of paper, a needle and some thread.
First you have to make as much paper cranes as you want for your garland.

Folding a paper crane is really easy, I've already made lots of them.

When you think you have enough paper cranes, you use the needle to thread the cranes on the thread. You just put de needle trough the heads and the tails.

And then it's finished!

Homemade Mod podge

Today I made Mod Podge.
I found the idea on the internet and it turned out to be super easy! You just put a surtain amount of glue in a jar and add the same amount of water to it. Shake it, and your mod podge is ready to be used!

I used my homemade mod podge to attach the label to the jar, so you can see it actually works.

In my mind I have already so much things I want to use it for! Of course you can use it for decoupage projects, but I have also something else in mind. Later I'll tell you more about it!

Easy brownie recipe

Hi guys,

Today I celebrated that it's weekend once again, by making a brownie. (I love brownies) This recipe takes little time and is so easy! I make it so often... This time I put the baking tin to high in the oven, so I had to put a sheet of alluminium foil on top of it, to keep it from burning. Because of this, the upper part of the brownie, wasn't whole anymore. But who cares, it still tasted great!

Wat you'll need:
4 eggs
125 g sugar
125 brown sugar
150 g pure chocolate
150 g self-rising flour
150 g butter
1 little bag of vanillasugar

Wat you need to do:
Start by pre-heating the oven on 175 ÂșC. Break the chocolate into little pieces and melt them along with the butter. When that's done, add the sugar, brown sugar, vanillasugar and flour and mix it al together. Last, add the eggs one by one. When the dough has a smooth consistency you can pour it in your baking tin (grease it with butter first).

Let me know how it tasted!

Hi, this is me.

Dear Who Ever Is Reading This,

On this blog I'm going to keep track of my creative outbursts along with my Day Zero list and other stuff that appeal to me. I'm going to post tutorials on the clothes and crafts I make and recipes. This post is a small introduction, I guess, to who I am. On Pinterest  (to which I'm addicted by the way)  I found these fun images, so I'll let them to the talking!

Today is the first day of november and besides starting this blog I also started with NaNoWriMo, because november is National Novel Writing Month. The main idea behind this is basically, that you write a novel of at least 50.000 words in 30 days. Over 200.000 people around the world participate. This is the second year that I'm trying to reach the goal. Last year I failed, but hopefully this year I will succeed!

If you want to know more about me, keep following my blog and leave a comment. By doing so, you would make me real happy!

Love,
Bregje
